Pasture Cropping Project

This project has build on the overwhelming interest demonstrated by farmers who attended the “Doing it differently” forum, and more recently the Advanced Pasture Cropping courses in 2008/09. This project is covering many Landcare group areas and Catchment management areas. The project will assess pasture cropping principles across a range of local environments, and the persistence of perennial grasses in a winter dominant rainfall climate. Demonstration sites have been established at: Chesney Vale, Bungeet, Benalla, Meadow Creek and Markwood.

Project update Jan 2010.

The Gecko CLaN has been managing the Pasture Cropping project for 18 months now and the first project has now finished. A booklet of results has been released and can be obtained by contacting the Landare Project Officer in Benalla on 5761 1560. A DVD has also been produced and is accessable in 4 parts on youtube at the link below.

The Gecko CLaN has been successful in in obtaining further funding through Caring for Our Country CFOC to continue this project for a further two years. The first project has enabled us to produce a good grounding to continue with the second by providing us with base line data and a group of supportive and positive farmers.

Pasture Cropping Booklet from Project 1

This booklet contains information on the first Pasture Cropping Project which ended in 2009. It includes farmers stories and their reasons for being a part of the trials and for undertaking the technique. This booklet also contains the results in the back from our trials which show significant increases in Carbon on some trial sites.
